What is Pneumatic Logic?
Pneumatic logic, also known as air logic, is an industrial automation control method using compressed air to perform both the logic and fluid power functions. It is similar to the common relays, timers, and counters used in relay logic and PLC control, but uses compressed air for system control instead of electrical current. Logic functions such as AND, OR, NOT, FLIP-FLOP, MEMORY, RESET, TIME DELAY and ONE SHOT are all achievable with pneumatic logic componentry.
Although not so popular for automation in today’s modern factory, pneumatic logic does offer benefits to users when in dirty, dusty, hazardous environments where electricity can be problematic, or in simple automation applications where PLCs/PCs are overkill or impractical.
